Asst. Prof. Dr. Anothai Ngamvichaikit, Acting Vice-President for Research and Innovation, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University, joined as a panelist in the webinar on “Learning from Southeast Asia: Response on Education in Coping with COVID-19” hosted by SEAMEO SEAMOLEC.
SEAMOLEC hosted an Open and Distance Learning (ODL) Webinar entitled “Learning from Southeast Asia: Response on Education in Coping with Covid-19” on October 20, 2020 at 13.30-16.00 hrs. The event was successful as a stage that all Southeast Asian countries shared and learnt from each other on how they overcame challenges during the outbreak.
Dr. Alpha Amirrachman, SEAMOLEC Director presided over and gave a welcome remark. Dr. Ethel Agnes P. Valenzuela, SEAMEO Secretariat Director, also joined the webinar and gave a special remark.
Dr. Rachmadi Widdiharto, Director of Teacher and Education Personnel for Basic Education, the Ministry of Education and Culture (MoEC) of Indonesia, was invited as a keynote speaker at the event. He delivered the official opening remarks. The participants were informed about the MoEC learning policy in Indonesia during the pandemic, and actions taken regarding education amid the COVID-19 outbreak.
The panel session presented four experts from four Southeast Asian countries. The speakers included (1) Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wan Zuhainis Binti Saad from the Ministry of Higher Education of Malaysia, (2) Ms. Tham Yoke Chun from the Ministry of Education of Singapore, (3) Asst. Prof. Dr. Anothai Ngamvichaikit from Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University of Thailand, and (4) Ms. Hendri Puspa Martasari from ICT Center of the MoEC of Indonesia.
The webinar was closed by a summary remark by SEAMOLEC Deputy Director for Programme, Mrs. Prakaikan Schneitz.
